January Superintendent Message

There’s so much more to this hobby than just “building trains in your basement!” It is said that the only constant is change and the Red Car Trolley at Disney’s California Adventure is another thing changing. It opened in 2012 and is stopping next month to make way for new attractions. It will be on display for photos but no longer running. We were able to ride it one last time on our recent visit over the holidays.

This year is the 90th anniversary of the NMRA. We can look back on all the amazing things we did in 2024 but let us also look forward to 2025 and all the opportunities we can have going forward! One thing is our expanding relationship with Stadler. Starting in March we will be having our monthly meetings in their cafeteria which is a building off the main building. They are closed on Saturdays but will make arrangements for the gate to be open to allow us to meet there. More info (and maps) to come. While the Redwood Recreation Center has been a good place to meet, we have been a little limited. Their programs take priority so we are not able to continue meeting there long term and it costs us money.

I would also like to congratulate Doug Jolley and Cameron LaFluer as our newest Board Members. Thanks to Kevin and George for all they have done. I know they will continue to serve. There are many ways to serve each other in the Division and by doing so we can enjoy the journey together!
