February Superintendent Message

There’s so much more to this hobby than just “building trains in your basement!” Our last layout tour was at Jon Robinson’s Double Diamond Model Railroad and it is not in a basement. In fact, it is in a couple shipping containers in his backyard! A very unique idea and looks like it works extremely well. There are two that sort of make a T and he can add another one very easily. I like how he has done it with long mainline runs and easy access to the yard with storage above. I was even surprised to see some of my handiwork on his layout. I had forgotten that I had built some turnouts for him.

I’m sorry to say that we lost another one of our members, Charlie Treft. He served as our clinic coordinator for several years. The past while he has had some health problems but he was able to attend meetings again a couple times before having to stay home again. I was texting him earlier in the week before he passed on January 17. His wife posted on Facebook that more info would be coming but she has not posted since then. If anyone has more info let me know and I will post it on our website.

One of my son’s friends, and my former Cub Scout, also passed away recently. He had epileptic seizures for the last seven years. In times like these we often reflect back on our interactions with those who have gone on. I may not “make every second count” but I try to make my interactions with everyone a positive one. As we work together in our meetings and events, let us be patient with each other so we can make great memories and we can enjoy the journey together!
